Allowable Payroll Deductions

***These deductions can be tax sheltered by Gadsden State Community College’s cafeteria plan.

Under the cafeteria plan, employees who choose to tax shelter allowed insurance premiums are required to make irrevocable benefit elections which generally must be made prior to the beginning of each plan year. Our plan year begins September 1 and ends August 31 each year. Changes in benefit elections after the beginning of the plan year are permitted only under special circumstances. It is important that each employee complete a Section 125 Benefit Election Form each year so that all changes to premiums will be properly recorded. Changes and election forms must be completed prior to September 1.


Deduction Changes

Occasionally, employees will need to change one of their payroll deductions. For each change, a written and signed Payroll Deduction Authorization Form must be completed and sent to the Payroll Office. No changes may be made by phone request. For a change to be included in the current month’s payroll, the requested change must reach the Payroll Office by the 15th of the month. If an authorization form is received after the 15th of the month, the change will be effective with the next month’s payroll.

Stop Deduction

To discontinue a payroll deduction, a written and signed Payroll Deduction Cancellation Form must be completed and sent to the Payroll Office. No changes may be made by phone request. For a change to be included in the current month’s payroll, the requested change must reach the Payroll Office by the 15th of the month. If a cancellation form is received after the 15th of the month, the change will be effective with the next month’s payroll.


PEEHIP Insurance Changes

Changes involving PEEHIP insurance may be made only in July 1 - Aug 31 for the effective date of change to be October 1. This is the open enrollment period set by PEEHIP for changes to be made. However, certain unknown events such as the loss of coverage, birth of a child, etc., may allow for a change outside of the open enrollment period. Questions regarding changes should be directed to PEEHIP. Forms used in making a change to PEEHIP coverage vary according to the change. Contact PEEHIP regarding the forms needed at (877) 517-0020.
